The Language Co-op Program

The language co-op program in Canada is a great opportunity to use and improve your English in a new environment while experiencing Canadian culture. The Language Co-op Program Workshop will help you understand the basics of looking for work, applying for jobs, attending interviews and working in various positions common for working visa students. You will also learn to write a resume and the skills needed for an effective job interview.

Course Objectives

By the end of the Language Co-op Program Job Skills Workshop, you will be able to:

  • Have the resources and confidence to look for employment.
  • Have a completed resume and cover letter. Understand how to fill-out various job applications.
  • Feel confident participating in a job interview.
  • Have a variety of communicative skills to work in Canada.
  • Understand the basics of Canadian working culture.

Course Materials

Handouts and other material will be provided by your instructor. The course may utilitize the internet, library and other resources.

Course Components

  • Class Attendance and Participation
  • Homework, small projects and research.
  • You will complete a resume in this class.

Course Pre-requisites

Students should be in the Comprehensive English Program. This is a multi-level class: levels 4 – 6. If you have any further questions, please contact us!

Learn the specific skills needed for specific jobs.
Job applications and Cover Letters:
Vocabulary for job applications, how to fill out applications, highliglht your skills with a model cover letter.
Resume Writing Part 1:
Learn about which resume is right for you. Highlight your skills using vocabulary specific to you.
Resume Writing Part 2:
Fine tune your resume using new vocabulary.
Job Interview:
Learn how to prepare for a job interview. Dress appropriately, use the right body language.
Job Interview-Answering Questions:
Learn how to answer questions on your job interview.
Job Interview:
Practice the skills needed for a successful job interview. You will role play a job interview and practice being both employer and employee.
