The Mapparium Excursion - Boston English School

25/01/2017 After Class Activities Language Schools GEOS News created by SC GEOS Team, Rewritten by Melissa Lang

SC GEOS Students in Boston embraced their inner explorer on a multi-dimensional educational experience at the Mapparium.

In January, the SC GEOS family from our Boston school took students on an excursion they will never forget to the Mapparium at the Mary Baker Eddy Library. The Mapparium is well known for its distinct three-dimensional view of how the world was perceived in 1935, and its majestic visuals that harbour insight into our global geographic history.

Students were amazed and gazed up in awe at the sight of the famous three-story tall stained glass globe above their heads, which was one of the major attractions at the library.  The globe is viewed from a 30-foot long bridge through the inside where students received a full panoramic perspective of the world. A World of Ideas further enhances the Mapparium experience, which is a presentation full of LED lights and music illuminating the evolution of geographical ideas. They also enjoyed the echo chamber. It came to much of our surprise when our Thai student discovered that Thailand was actually named “Siam” in the world of 1935. Who would have thought? Everyone came out of the Mary Baker Eddy library having learned something historically enlightening and enriching.
